John Mendelsohn
Mr. Mendelsohn began his real estate career after graduating from the University of Southern California School of Business Administration. Since 1971, he has provided leasing and development strategy services for a variety of major retail and office properties, and brings to the MMI team important connections and leverage, as well as his creative leasing and merchandising skills. He is a founding shareholder of MMI, and retains overall responsibility for the company’s asset management, leasing and development coordination.

John has been responsible for directing the leasing and re-merchandising process for shopping centers totaling more than 2 million square feet on O’ahu and Bishop Square, a 30-story, twin tower office property in Honolulu, in conjunction with strong on-site management and leasing personnel to ensure consistency and effectiveness. The properties that MMI manages and leases have consistently remained at high occupancy levels due to the continuing efforts of our leasing and management staff to identify and attract an optimum balance of local and national tenants, well-suited for each particular property.

Charles Shaller
A graduate of the California Institute of Technology, Mr. Shaller has served as an engineer in charge of U.S. Embassy construction in Europe, and as director of public works for California’s Humboldt County. He is a founding shareholder of MMI, and has multiple engineering degrees complementing John’s strength in business administration, development and leasing. Chuck’s role is to oversee the operations staff and construction consultants in analyzing and supervising all physical aspects of the property, including mechanical and electrical systems maintenance and repair, off-site and on-site improvements, all construction projects, and the physical planning, permitting and construction of all new buildings and GLA additions to our clients’ properties.

Chuck has established for the different ownerships of all of the properties, lasting and meaningful relationships with numerous contractors and consultants over the last 20 years; as a result, MMI has an extensive selection of professionals to draw on for a wide range of services. Relationships and credibility are the most important things to develop in Hawai‘i, and there is no substitute for the time it takes to establish them.
